What are common items left in hotel rooms?
I'm going to say cell-phone chargers, so easy to forget in an electrical socket on the wall. I'm not someone who leaves things behind as a rule, but I've been tripped up by forgetting to see and pack a charger.

So when veteran travel publicist Karen Weiner Escalera suggested I discuss the issue, I bit. Here are the answers from hotels she reps.

Marquis Reforma Hotel in Mexico City: Most common item left behind: pajamas and other clothing. Most unusual: 100,000 pesos (about $10,000) hidden inside a cereal box in the safe. The guest did claim it.

Lost items there are kept by housekeeping for 3 months; valuables go to the general manager’s office, where they remain for a year.

At the Casanova Hotel in Barcelona, cell chargers, sunglasses, toiletry bags and shirts left hanging in the closet commonly are left behind. Non-pricey Items go to housekeeping for three months. Valuables are stored in a safe.

At Marquis Los Cabos, Mexico , unlucky fishermen leave behind coolers. Bathing suits, sunglasses and towels often are forgotten. Most unusal items left behind: dentures.

Here, items go to housekeeping or the general manager's office. And those not claimed after a certain time go to the person who turned them in.
